PRoject Overview
For this project, I created a brand guidelines poster for the Electric Root Festival, an annual event in Oxford, Ohio. The goal was to develop a cohesive visual identity for the festival and design mockups showing how the branding could be applied across various materials during the event. This included logos, typography, color palettes, and other design elements, demonstrating how the festival’s identity could be consistently represented in real-world applications.
Concept Boards
The next step was creating concept boards for the Electric Root Festival, which involved brainstorming and moodboarding to capture the essence of the event. The main focus was celebrating Black culture, as the festival centers on sharing art, music, food, and community through radical hospitality and joy. These boards helped define the visual direction, exploring colors, textures, and imagery that could represent the festival’s vibrant, inclusive, and celebratory spirit.
Poster Design Process
For the poster design process, I developed three initial concepts, experimenting with geometric shapes and layouts, particularly circles. Building on the visual direction from the brand guidelines poster, I explored different orientations and compositions, taking advantage of the creative freedom allowed for the project. I gravitated toward a geometric Art Deco-inspired style, which I then fully developed and refined for the final poster design.
Final Elements
This collage showcases some of the final mockups for the festival brand as presented in the brand guidelines. It highlights how the logo, typography, color palette, and visual elements come together across different applications, including social media posts, tote bags for attendees, and poster stands placed around Oxford to promote the festival. These mockups demonstrate the versatility and cohesion of the visual identity in real-world contexts while maintaining a consistent and polished aesthetic.
